Anxiety disorder
Primary symptom is extreme anxiety
Irrational fears that produce a conscious avoidance of the feared object/situation
Agoraphobia - Trapped in a public place
Social Phobia - Social situation
Specific Phobia - eg spider, heights and snakes
Phobias - Emotional
Excessive, unreasonable, persistent fear. Cued by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation
Phobias - Behavioural
Avoidance, faint ‘Fight, flight or freeze’
Can interfere with routine, occupation, social activities and relationships
Phobias - Cognitive
Irrational nature of thinking + resistance to rational arguments. The person recognises their fear is excessive/unreasonable. This helps distinguish between phobias and delusional mental illness

Diagnosis of ‘major depressive disorder’ requires at least 5 symptoms

Usually begins within young adults
Two main components —> obsessions and complusions
OCD - Emotional
Considerable anxety and distress
People who are aware usually feel shame
Awareness of germs = disgust
OCD - Cognitive
Obsessions can be frightening/embarrassing therefore dont want to be shared
Obsessional themes: Ideas, doubts, impulses and images
Unconformable which can lead to anxiety
Recognise these obsessions are a product of their own mind
OCD Behavioural
Compulsive behaviours reduce anxiety when preformed
Feel like they MUST be completed
Repetitive and unconcealed
