Anti-discrimination Pay Act, 1974
Women are entitled to equal pay with men (or vice versa) where they are employed in "like work"
•Applicants under the Act must have a comparator of the opposite sex with whom to compare work and pay.
Maternity Protection of Employment Act, 1981. Maternity Protection Acts, 1994 and 2004.
The main provisions of maternity legislation relate to:
•Maternity leave
•Time off for ante-natal and post-natal care or classes
•Father’s leave in the event of the death of the mother
Time off from work or a reduction in working hours for breastfeeding
•The right to return to work after the maternity leave
•Protection against dismissal
Parent leave
The acts allow employees to take leave in certain circumstances like during the illness of a child or parent.
•Unpaid leave
•Up to 14 weeks
Force majeure leave
If you have a family crisis the legislation gives an employee a limited right to leave from work.
•Paid leave.
•Up to 3 days in one year.
