transcription
the process in which RNA gets the "code" for a protein from the DNA
Transcription Step 1
The DNA molecule unwinds.
Transcription Step 2
The DNA molecule "unzips".
Transcription Step 3
Free nucleotides match up with DNA nucleotides on one side of the DNA molecule to make RNA.
Transcription Step 4
After mRNA finishes transcribing the DNA molecule, it breaks away, leaves the nucleus, and moves to the ribosomes.
"What happens at the ribosomes?": Step 1
mRNA goes to a ribosome and will be "read" by the ribosome.
"What happens at the ribosomes?": Step 2
mRNA is read one codon at a time.
"How does the CORRECT amino acid get to the ribosome?"
translation
Translation Step 1 & 2
Each tRNA has a specific amino acid and will bring this amino acid to the ribosome when the codon on the mRNA matches up with the anti-codon on tRNA.
End Product of Protein Synthesis
The amino acids called for by the mRNA attach to each other in the order they are coded for and you get a protein.
"How do the amino acids attach to one another?"
through a peptide bond
