Secondary dominant
Chord built on the dominant (V) of the chord that follows.
Tonicization
Treating another scale degree as a false tonic.
Resolving secondary dominants
1) The chord seventh (4) should resolve downward by step to the third of the second chord (3)
2) The leading tone of the second key should resolve up to the root of the second chord
Always make sure the LT is present and is ½ step below the tonic
3) Other tones resolve by tendency pairs according to the second key
Secondary leading tone chords
Diminished triads or fully diminished chords that have the leading tone of the second chord as their root.
Resolving secondary leading tones
1) The root of the secondary leading tone (first chord) will resolve up by step to the tonic of the second chord
2) If it is a seventh chord, the seventh should resolve downward by step to the fifth of the second chord
3) The other tones will resolve according to the tendency pairs of the second key
Secondary leading tones resolve the same as secondary dominants, except for the fact that secondary leading tones use the 6-5 resolution as well
