Main idea
We can find the perimeter of polygons by using their coordinates on the coordinate plane
Coordinate plane
Has an x axis left right and y axis up down
Coordinates x y
X moves left or right Y moves up or down
Perimeter
Add up all side lengths
Example
Points A 5 2 B 5 4 C 7 2 D 7 4 shape is a rectangle length 7 - 5 = 2 width 4 - 2 = 2 perimeter 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 units
Quick steps
Plot points identify shape subtract coordinates to find side lengths same y subtract x same x subtract y add all sides together
Memory tip
Think of perimeter like walking the whole path around the shape
