Subject
a person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with in a clause
Verb
a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, become, happen.
Action Verb |
a word that describes the physical or mental action performed by the subject of a sentence. These verbs show what the subject is doing or has done. Examples include words like "run," "eat," "think," and "travel," which depict actions rather than states of being.
Infinitive
the basic form of a verb, without an inflection binding it to a particular subject or tense (e.g. see in we came to see, let him see ).
State of Being Verb |
a verb that identifies who or what a noun is, was, or will be; they can also be used to describe how or what the subject of a sentence is like at a particular moment
Helping Verb |
a verb that works with a main verb to express tense, mood, voice, or other grammatical aspects, rather than performing the main action itself
Clause
a unit of grammatical organization next below the sentence in rank and in traditional grammar said to consist of a subject and predicate.
Phrase
a small group of words standing together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a component of a clause.
