diaphragm
A: pulls central tendon downward during inspiration
N: phrenic nerve
external intercostals
A: elevates ribs during inspiration
N: intercostal nerves
internal intercostals
A: draws ribs together in forced expiration
N: intercostal nerves
Rectus abdominis
A: flexes vertebral column, support pelvic girdle
N: thoracic nerves T7-T12

linea alba
Line separating right/left rectus abdominis
-band of CT that expands from the xiphoid process to the pubic tubercle, site of attachment for the sheet like structures/muscles (obliques)

Tendinous intersections
three/four transverse bands of collagen fibers that divide the rectus abdominis into segments

Inguinal ligament
V line
-goes from ASIS to pubic symphysis, made of collagen fibers, aponeurosis of inferior part of external oblique (anatomical landmark)
above it=hip
below it=thigh

Inguinal canal
the channel in the abs which the spermatic cord travels through (males) or round ligament of uterus (female)

external oblique
A: compresses abdomen, laterally flexes and rotates vertebral column
N: thoracic nerves T7-T12

Internal oblique
A: compress abdomen, laterally bend and rotate vertebral column
N: T8-T12

Transversus abdominis
A: compresses abdomen and laterally bend trunk
N: T8-T12
-deepest layer, transverse fibers
