What is a cell?
Basic unit of life.
What is a prokaryotic cell?
Cell without a nucleus; simple and small (e.g., bacteria).
What is a eukaryotic cell?
Cell with a nucleus and organelles; complex and larger (e.g., animal, plant)
What is nucleus?
Contains the cells DNA and controls the cells growth
What is cytoplasm?
First site of chemical reactions. E.g respiration
What is mitrochondria
Site of aerobic respiration and creates energy
What is cell membrane?
Controls what enters and leaves the cell
Ribosomes
Site of Presteigne synthesis
Cell wall?
Strengthens and supports the cell
Made from cellulose
Vacuole
Contains cell sap and supports the cell
Chloroplast
Site of photosynthesis and contains chlorophyll
Plasmid
Contains genetic materials
What is the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells
Prokaryotic do not contain nucleus, mitrochondria or ribosome whilst eukaryotic cells do
Prokaryotic cells are much smaller than eukaryotic
Prokaryotic cells are single-celled organisms
Why don’t animal cells contain chloroplast?
Animal cells don’t have chloroplasts because they don’t do photosynthesis — they get energy by eating, not by making food from sunlight.
