Superior nuchal line, external occipital protuberance, ligamentum nutae, spinous processes C7 to T12

Clavical, acromion, spine of scapula

Action:

Upper fibers elevate and upwardly rotate, middle fibers adduct, lower fibers depress scapula

Innervation: Spinal accessory nerve CN 11

Root: Anterior rami C3 and C4

Proximal attachment:

Spinous processes of T2-T5 vertebrae

Rhomboid major

Distal attachment:

Medial border of scapula from the root of the spine of the scapula to the inferior angle

Action:

Retraction (adduction), elevation and downward rotation of scapula

Spinous processes of T6 to L5 and sacrum, iliac crest, ribs 10 to 12

Medial lip of the intertubercular sulcus

Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus, downward rotation of the scapula
