What is osseous tissue?
A hard, dense connective tissue that forms most of the adult skeleton (bone)
What is cartilage?
A semi-rigid form of connective tissue that provides flexibility and smooth surfaces for movement.
What functions does the skeletal system perform?
Supports the body
Facilitates movement
Protects internal organs
Produces blood cells
Store and release minerals and fat
What metabolic functions do bones serve?
The bone matrix acts as a reservoir for minerals, especially calcium and phosphorus. They serve as a site for fat storage and blood cell production.
What does red and yellow bone marrow do?
1) Red marrow is where hematopoiesis takes place.
2) Yellow marrow contains adipose tissue.
