Life
A unique, complex organization of molecules that expresses through chemical reactions leading to growth, development, responsiveness, adaptation, and reproduction.
Growth
The increase in number, mass, and size of cells.
Cell Division
The process through which growth in plants occurs continuously throughout their life span and replaces lost cells in animals.
Reproduction
The production of progeny with features similar to those of the parents, can be asexual or sexual.
Metabolism
The sum total of all biochemical reactions taking place inside a living system.
Binomial Nomenclature
A system of naming organisms using two components proposed by Carolus Linnaeus.
Taxonomic Hierarchy
A classification system that involves a hierarchy of ranks, each representing a taxonomic category or taxon.
Genus
A group of closely related species.
Family
A group of related genera with fewer similarities compared to genus and species.
Order
An assemblage of related families.
Class
An assemblage of related orders, in plants refers to division.
Phylum/Division
The assemblage of various Classes or Divisions, representing a higher taxonomic category.
Key
A device used to identify species in a group based on similarities and dissimilarities.
Botanical Garden
Specialized gardens that have collections of living plants for reference and identification purposes.
Museum
A collection of preserved plants and animals for study and reference.
Flora
It contains the actual account of habitat and distribution of plant species in a given area.
Manuals
Publications providing information for identification of species found in an area.
Monographs
Documents that provide information on any one taxon.
