Airworthiness report
Regestration
Operating Handbook
Weight+Balance Report
Journey Log
Insurance
Licences
How long is the certificate of registration valid for?
It is valid until the owner changes, theres any type of accident or the aircraft is taken out of service
How long does an owner have to notify Transport Canada about a change in address?
7 days
What is the procedure for selling/transfer ownership of an aircraft (with the c.o.r)
You fill out the back page, keep the pink part and send the other one to TC, the pink one you keep is valid for 60days or until TC sends you a new one
How long is the Certificate of Airworthiness valid for?
For 1 year
What can invalidate a Certificate of Air worthiness?
-aircraft is not properly maintained
-aircraft is operated outside of its limitations
-there is a major or minor accident
-an airworthiness directive is not followed
How is the Certificate of Airworthiness re-validated
by submitting an airworthiness report
Is there a Certificate of Airworthiness for homebuilt aircraft?
No, but there is a permit
Define Basic Empty Weight
The weight of the:
-frame
-engine
-standard and optional equipment
-full oil
Define Maximum Takeoff Weight
The maximum weight that the manufacturer recommends to begin takeoff roll
How does the max takeoff weight differ from the max ramp weight?
Max ramp weight is max takeoff weight +fuel for start, taxi, run up
Who prepares the weight and balance report that is to be carried on board?
The aircraft manufacturer
What is the difference between Utility and Normal category of a/c
Normal Category: any aircraft that has seating for 9 or less (excluding pilot) and are limited to non-aerobatic operations
Utility Aircraft: same as normal but can be used for LIMITED aerobatic operations (ex. Spins, 60 degreee turns)
Is an aircraft considered airworthy is it is overloaded? Why?
No because it invalidates the weight and balance limitations set out by manufacturer which makes it non airworthy
How often must an aircraft be re-weighed?
if it's weight changes by more than 2% for our aircraft, aircraft over 12500lbs have to be weighed every 5 years
What important information can you find in the W+B report that you cant find anywhere else
-weight of full oil
-date of manufacture
-actual accurate unusable fuel
Does the journey log have to be taken on every flight?
Yes unless you are landing at the same place you departed from
What is the definition of airtime and flight time
Airtime is wheels up to wheels down
Flight time is as soon as the wheels move to as soon as they stop
Are aircraft inspections based on AT or FT
Airtime
How long are you allowed to fly passed an inspection time
Maximum of 10 hours, if AME or PRFM signs off on it
What is DFC's Maintenance policy?
every 50 hours, 1st 50/100/2nd 50/200 up to 1000
How often is the compass swung?
every year
When do you require an ELT
when flying more than 25nm from aerodrome of departure
What does the certificate of registration tell you?
Nationality of a/c
Regestration marking
Manufacturer
model and serial numbers
owner and their address
issue dates
signed by minister
How often must an ELT be certified and by whom
Ever year and by an avionics professional
How long is an ELT battery good ?
2 years
When can you test the ELT
1st 5 minutes of every hour for no longer than 5 seconds
How often is the pitot static instruments checked?
the pitot static system must be inspected every 2 years if the a/c is to fly in class B airspace
How long must you keep a filled journey logbook?
3 years minimum
Do insurance papers have to be carried onboard?
Yes unless you're operating commercial ops
Where must the fireproof plate be located on an aircraft
on the a/c visible from the ground or where you can see it from an entrance door
What are the 4 sections of the technical logbook?
Engine, Prop, Airframe, Modifactions and Airworthiness directives log
What must each crew member carry on every flight
license, medical, radio
What invalidates a licence
medical
What class of medical is required for a Private pilot, how long is it valid?
Class 3, 5 years when under 40, 2 years when over
What class of medical is required for a Commercial Pilot
Class 1, 1 year under 40 and 6months above
When does you medical expire
First of the month after anniversary
How long is radio licence valid for?
life
What is the best angle of climb speed (Vx) for DA20
52
Name the pitot-static instruments
ASI, VSI, ALT
Which PS instruments use pitot/static ports
ASI uses PS
VSI + ALT use just static
What happens to ASI is pitot get blocked
Over read in Climb
Under read in descent
What happens to ASI if static gets blocked
Under read in a climb
Over read in a descent pitot
What happens to VSI and ALT if static gets blocked
ALT freezes and VSI reads 0
Name the gyroscopic instruments
Attitude, heading, powered by engine driven vacuum pump
How do you know that you vacuum instruments are reliable?
there are no warning flags and the vacuum gauge is in the green
What are the sources of error in the Heading Indicator
Earths rotation and bearing friction
What does the turn coordinator show?
Doesnt show angle of bank rather rate of turn
What is the inclinometer and how does it work
the ball on the turn coordinator, works with gravity, shows coordinated turn
How to lean mixture
For best economy, increase by 50 degrees
For best power increase by 150
What are signs of the engine being too lean?
detention and overheating
When you add carb heat, why is there a decrease in performance?
because the system heats up the air, thus thinning it and therefore making the fuel/air ratio have less air and more fuel
What is the designation for power off stall flaps up?
Bottom of green arc
How does weight affect stall speed?
Increases with Weight
How does angle of bank affect stall speed?
Increases with AofB
What is the designation for the power off stall speed with LDG flaps?
Bottom of white arc
Define VA
the speed at which you wont over stress the aircraft with full deflection of controls
What happens to VA with weight
It increase as weight increases
DA20 Vno and Vne?
118 and 164 KIAS
What do you call the speed at which the best weight to drag ration is reached
Best Glide
In a climbing turn, which wing stalls first and why
higher wing
In a descending turn which wing stalls first and why
