Classification
Putting organisms into groups based on similarities.
Biodiversity
The variety of different species within an ecosystem.
Five Kingdom Classification
A system that categorizes life into five main groups: Animal, plant, Fungi, protist and monera
Morphological Features
Characteristics based on the form and structure of organisms.
Binomial System
A two-part system for naming species, consisting of the genus name and the species name.
Common Names
Everyday names for organisms that may lead to confusion due to their variability.
Scientific Name
A unique, standardized name used to identify a species, based on Latin. Always used for universal understanding
Adaptation
A feature that helps an organism survive in its environment.
Interspecific Competition
Competition between individuals of different species.
Intraspecific Competition
Competition between individuals of the same species.
CITES
A treaty aimed at protecting endangered species by regulating international trade.
Captive Breeding
A method of protecting rare species by breeding them in controlled environments before releasing them into the wild.
Quadrat Sampling
A method used to estimate population size by counting organisms within a defined area.
Transect Sampling
A method of studying the distribution of organisms by sampling along a line.
Capture-recapture Technique
A method for estimating animal population sizes by capturing, marking, and recapturing.
Biological Control
Using a living organism to control pest populations.
Invasive Species
Non-native species that disrupt local ecosystems.
Stem Cells
Undifferentiated cells that have the ability to develop into various cell types.
Mitosis
A type of cell division that produces two genetically identical daughter cells.
Meiosis
A type of cell division that results in four genetically diverse gametes.
Antibiotic Resistance
The ability of bacteria to survive exposure to antibiotics that once killed them.
