Electricity was proposed by
Charles Francois
He was interested in the
Attraction and repulsion of objects that occurred after they been rubbed
Charles proposed that
Electricity was the interaction between two electrical fluids
He concluded they were called
Vitreous and resinous
He said fluids were separated by
Frictional forces
One fluid model proposed by
Benjamin Franklin
He claimed electricity was only one fluid that could be present in excess or absent from the body
Attraction between opposite charges
( positive can give access fluid to the )
Negative so they become neutral
Positive object has
More fluid
Negative object has
Less fluid
Neutral object has
Same amount
Protons can’t
MOVE from the atom at all
The electrons can
MOVE
Negative
An object with more electrons than protons
Positive
Object with fewer electrons than protons
Opposites or unlike charges
Attract ( negatives attract positives )
( positives attract negatives )
Objects that have the same charge
Repel each other
Two neutral objects have
No effect on each other
Charges objects
Attract neutral ones
Objects become charged when there is a
Transfer of electrons / negative charge
Two ways to charge an object
Friction
Conduction
Charging by friction
Occurs when a neutral objects of different materials are rubbed together
Charging friction occurs because
Electrons are free to move one object to another
The object losing electrons
Becomes positive
The object gaining electron becomes
Negative
EXAMPLE
running a comb through ur hair
Charging by conduction
You can permanently charge an object by
Touching it’s with another object
Electrons will flow to or from
The neutral object
If u touch the neutrals object with a negatively charged one it will
Become negative
If you touch a neutral object with a positive charged one the object will become
Positive
Charging by induction
When u bring a charger objects near a netutral object but not touching it you can induce the opposite charge on the neutral object
Induction is a temporary charge when the charged object is removed everything goes back to normal
SUMMARY
Charging by friction
Two objects rub together and end up with opposite charges
They attract
CHARGING BY CONDUCTION
Two objects touch and end up with the same charges
They repel
Charging by induction
Two objects are brought close together and the opposite charge is applied
They attract aswell
Temporary change
