Perceptual constancy

when you perceive familiar objects as unchanging even though stimuli we received from it change

Color Constancy

tendency to perceive an objects color as the same under different lighting conditions

Shape constancy

the tendency to perceive an objects shape as unchanged even when its angle/viewpoint changes

Size constancy

tendency to perceive an object as the same size even when its distance changes

Apparent movement

perception of motion when no actual movement occurs

Phi Phenomenon

illusion of movement created when 2 or more adjacent lights blink on and off in quick succession

Stroboscopic movement

illusion of movement created by rapidly showing a series of slightly different still images

Autokinetic effect

visual illusion where a stationary point of light in a dark room appears to move

Cognition

mental processes involved in acquiring, storing, understanding, and using knowledge

Metacognition

ability to monitor, evaluate, and control your cognitive processes

Concept

a mental grouping of similar objects, events, ideas, or people that help us organize info

a mental image (best example) that incorporates all the features we associate with the category
