Keyboard- Made up of keys to input alphanumeric characters/symbols.
E.g. Inputting into a database or writing a report.
Mouse – A pointing device used to select items on the screen.
E.g. Navigating a UI E.g. Selecting icons on the screen.
Scanner – Converts hard copy text/images into a digital format.
E.g. Inputting photos for editing in a graphics software.
Webcam – Input video/still images directly into a computer.
E.g. Video Conferencing
Microphone – Inputs analogue signals into electrical signals to the sound card which converts analogue to digital.
E.g. Talking on VOIP calls or Voice Recording.
Sensor – Takes and inputs readings from the physical environment such as temperature.
E.g. Automated Central Heating Systems or Security Systems.
Graphics Tablets- Controls the computer by using a stylus on a tablet.
E.g. Creating digital illustrations.

Output Devices

Headphones – Amplification of analogue signals sent from the sound card to the user to hear – portable alternative to speakers. E.g. VOIP calls/listening to music
Speakers – Amplification of analogue signals sent from the sound card for the user to hear E.g. VOIP calls/listening to music.
Projector – Outputs an image onto a wall/screen. E.g. Viewing UI/Watching Movies.
Monitor – Outputs an image to the user – navigate the UI/photo/document/movies
Plotter – Specialist type of printer that draws to a very high quality on very large paper.
E.g. Drawing Vector Graphics.
Printer- Produces a hard copy of a digital document and images on paper. E.g. Hard copy report/printing digital photos.
