Describe and explain the process of longshore drift.
Longshore drift is the process of waves transporting material or sediment, such as sand, along the beach in the direction of the prevailing wind. The swash moves material up the beach at an angle determined by the direction of the prevailing wind. The material then moves back down at 90 degrees due to gravity, this is the backwash. This movement continues down the beach in a zig-zag motion.
