• ribs and pubic symphysis

• mainly made up of cartilage

• bones are united by cartilage

• 2 types: synchondroses and symphyses

• lacks a joint cavity

sychondroses

• synarthosis

• hyaline cartilage in between these bones/ unites bones

• ex. epiphyseal plate (region found between the shaft and tips of the bone, it is made out of cartilage for majority of youth until puberty when it turns into actual bone through a process called ossification)

• it is simply bone, cartilage, bone directly connected together

• ex. joint between first rib and manubrium (sternum)

symphyses

• fibrocartilage unites bones, resists tension and compression

• slightly moveable

• ex. intervertebral discs (made out of fibrocartilage)

• ex. pubic symphysis (holds pubic bones together)
