Villi, which is then further lined with microvilli
What is the function of villi?
Absorption of nutrients
Specific shape for increased surface area and one cell thick wall to make diffusion easier
What is bile?
A yellowy/ green liquid that aids the digestions of fats, breaking them down into smaller droplets
What is the role of the liver in TDS?
Produce bile which is then transported to the gall bladder
What is the role of the gall bladder in TDS?
Organ which stores bile before it is secreted to the small intestine
What is the role of the pancreas in TDS?
Produces biological catalysts called digestive enzymes (protease, lipase, amylase), which aid digestion
What is the role of the stomach in TDS?
Digests and breaks down food using hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) and protease so it can be absorbed by the body
What is the role of the small intestine in TDS?
Breaks down fats (lipase), carbohydrates (amylase) and, proteins (protease). Broken down food is absorbed into the bloodstream.
What is the role of the large intestine in TDS?
Excess water is absorbed any undigested food is excreted (got rid of as waste)
What is the order of digestive organs?
Mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus
