Assault
A common law offence characterized by an attack on another person with evil intent.
Actus Reus
The physical act or conduct that constitutes a criminal offense, such as an attack in the case of assault.
Mens Rea
The mental state or intent required to be guilty of a crime, indicating evil intent in the case of assault.
Reckless Injury
A common law offence involving causing injury to another person recklessly, without intent to harm.
Child Abuse
A criminal offence involving the ill-treatment, neglect, or exposure of a child likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
Domestic Abuse Aggravation
An aggravation of an offence when it involves the abuse of the accused's partner or ex-partner, potentially causing physical or psychological harm.
Consent
An agreement by a person to engage in certain actions; in assault law, consent is not considered a defence.
Evil Intent
The necessary mental state for assault, signifying a deliberate desire to cause harm or injury.
Reckless Endangerment
The action of putting others at risk or danger through reckless behavior, such as in the case of the landlord with a dangerous animal.
HIV Transmission
The unlawful act of transmitting HIV to another person, which can be prosecuted under the law for reckless conduct.
