Area
The amount of space inside a closed shape; for a parallelogram, Area = Base × Height.
Parallelogram
A four-sided figure with opposite sides parallel.
Base
The side used as the reference line for height; it is always a side of the shape.
Height
The perpendicular distance from the base to the opposite side; height does not need to be a side of the shape.
Area of a Parallelogram
Area = Base × Height.
Area of a Triangle
Area = 1/2 × Base × Height.
Parallel
Two lines that will never intersect.
Perpendicular
Two lines that intersect at a 90-degree angle.
