this is holding the govt to account, and there are many diff ways that they do this.

it means calling the govt to account through a series of mechanisms.

a) PMQTs

PM questions time occurs = every wedensday, 12-12:30.

This is where the PM answers the questions from backbenchers in any party, on any topical issue that they choose to raise.

b) Ministers QT

this is where each department features for one hr in a 4 week cycle.

these are similar to PMQs, but only cover the work of the relevant department.

• written questions to ministers can be submitted any time

• Scrutiny to legislation during the legislative process in committee stage or debate

vote of no confidence

this is to remove the govt of the day - which las happened in 1979
