What is the Qur’an?

The words of Allah which was sent as a guidance for mankind.

It was first sent to the preserved tablet on Laylatul Qadr and then sent to the lowest heaven all together (Inzaal).

Then it was sent to the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam via Jibreel bit-by-bit over 23 years.

What is an Ayah?

A sign, miracle, reminder or proof. It is the smallest meaningful part of the Qur'an.

What is a Surah?

A collection of Ayaat.

It comes from the word سور which means boundary.

We only know what a surah is because the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam said so. This is called Tawqeefee.

What is Taqwah?

The fear of the magnificent (Allah), to act upon the revelation (the Qur'an and Sunnah), to be satisfied with little (the characteristic of not being greedy) and to prepare for the day of departure (death).

(From the Hadith of Ali RadiyAllahu anhu).

The nature we are born with.

We know that there is someone there that we can ask for help when we are in trouble and we feel grateful for them and we know what is good and what is bad (morality).

What are Ahadith?

The sayings, actions and (silent) approvals of the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam.

What is an example of silent approval of the prophet sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam?

An example of silent approval is when a Sahaba went to a place with the prophet sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam and they were fed lizards. When the Sahaba ate the lizard, the Prophet didn't do anything which means he had allowed it, this is silent approval.

خَيْرُكُم مَن تَعَلَّمَ القُرآنَ وَ عَلَّمَه

'' The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an (with effort) and teach it (with effort).''

What is the difference between Inzaal and Tanzeel?

Tanzeel is when the Qur'an was sent down BIT-BY-BIT over 23 years. On the other hand, Inzaal refers to when the Qur'an was sent down IN ONE GO to the lowest heaven.
