What is a mainframe computer?
A large, powerful computer that carries out complex tasks rapidly and can be used by many people simultaneously.
What does a microprocessor do?
Controls what the computer does by taking data as input, processing it, and giving output.
What is a SIM card used for?
To identify the device on the mobile phone network.
What characterizes smartphones compared to other mobile phones?
Smartphones have Wi-Fi connectivity, internet access, cameras, and more complex operating systems.
What is the purpose of navigation aids?
To calculate the best routes considering shortest distance, least traffic, and shortest duration of travel.
What is the difference between GPS and GIS?
GPS uses multiple satellites to pinpoint location without internet, while GIS requires an internet connection to render maps and locations.
Define convergence in terms of digital devices.
The design of devices changes so that they become similar to each other, such as laptops that can flip to form tablets.
What is virtual memory?
Storage used by the processor when RAM runs out, leading to slower task execution.
What are the types of user interfaces mentioned in the notes?
Command Line, Menu-Driven, Graphical User Interface, Voice Driven, Gesture Interface.
What are peripheral devices?
Devices that can be connected to a computer to give input, output, or for storage.
How do optical media store data?
Using tiny bumps on their surface that represent binary data (0s and 1s), with lasers used for writing and reading.
What are the benefits of using biometric scanners?
They provide easier access, faster transactions, and they are harder to trick.
Explain the difference between a storage medium and a storage device.
The storage medium holds the data, while the storage device reads that data and presents it.
What features should a camera have for high-quality images?
Quality of the lens, quality of the image processor, and resolution of the sensor.
Why is energy consumption important for digital devices?
Lower energy consumption results in longer battery life, saving costs and promoting social responsibility.
What does a multimedia player do?
It presents audio and video on connected devices, such as televisions, often pulling content from the internet or local networks.
