Magnet
Any material that attracts objects made of iron, steel, nickel, or cobalt.
Magnetic Field
Area around a magnet where its force is exerted.
Lodestone
Naturally occurring magnetic mineral.
Permanent Magnet
Objects that retain their magnetism for extended periods.
Temporary Magnet
Magnet that can be easily demagnetized.
Electromagnet
A magnet created when an electric current passes through a conductor.
Magnetic Materials
Objects attracted to a magnet (e.g., paperclips, spoons, pins).
Non-Magnetic Materials
Objects not attracted to a magnet (e.g., cloth, plastic, glass, wood, copper, aluminum).
Magnetic Poles
The ends of a magnet where the magnetic force is strongest; North and South Pole.
Magnetic Field Lines
Lines representing the magnetic field, acting away from the North Pole and toward the South Pole.
Auroras
Magnificent natural light effect produced when charged particles are directed towards the North and South Poles.
Solar Wind
Streams of ionized or charged particles flowing from the sun.
