Compounding an Oral suspension

Step 1

Get the recipe given by the judge

Step 2

Check and verify with judge the amount per dose and number of doses

Step 3

Using the spatula and tray, obtain the correct number of tablets

Step 4

Verify the drug selected and number of tables with judge

Step 5

Obtain needed equipment - Pestle, mortar, graduated cylinder, brown liquid prescription bottle

Step 6

Wash hands or use hand sanitizer

Step 7

Crush the pills until fine

Step 8

Add a small amount of suspending vehicle(water) until smooth paste is formed

Step 9

continue adding until its liquid

Step 10

pour the liquid into a graduated cylinder

Step 11

Rinse mortar with a bit of solution several times and add it to the graduated cylinder

Step 12

Add the rest of the liquid into the graduated cylinder to fit mg/ml requirements and verify at eye level

Step 13

Pour this compound into the brown liquid bottle, close, and shake

Step 14

Select appropriate label, stick it on, and show judge

Step 15

Look at prescription, grab matching affixed labels, and add them to the prescription bottle. Verify with judge

Step 16

Clean the area and equipment using 70% rubbing alcohol and return everything to place

Step 17

Wash hands
