earth

A planet in the solar system where we live.

crust

The outer layer of the Earth.

upper mantle

The part of the Earth that is deep below the surface.

lower mantle

The part of the Earth below the upper mantle.

outer core

The part deep inside the Earth.

inner core

The central part inside the Earth.

tectonic plate

Huge piece of the crust on which the oceans and continents are made.

tectonic features

For example earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and volcanic islands.

fault

A crack on or below the earth’s surface at the plate boundary.

The border of the plate.

flood

A large amount of water that covers land that was dry before.

hotspot

The place in the Earth where there is a mantle plume with magma.

ridge

A long narrow top of a mountain or a group of monsters.

epicentre

The land that is straight above the centre of an earthquake.

force

Physical strength of the Earth and its atmosphere.
