An alliance that includes Britain, France, and Russia.

The Black Hand

A Serbian terrorist group formed in 1911 with the aim to assassinate a member of the ruling Austria family.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand

Whose assassination triggered World War I.

Schlieffen Plan

Germany declared war on France using this plan on August 3rd.

British Raj

The period from 1858 onwards when the British government directly ruled India.

Anglo-Maratha Wars

A series of wars from 1775 to 1819 between the Maratha Empire and the East India Company, which the EIC won.

Kandyan Wars

Wars during which the EIC gained control of Sri Lanka from 1796-1818.

Fuhrer

A single leader in Nazi Germany.

Treaty of Versailles

The Nazi's believed that it should be abolished because Germany was angry at losing WW1.

Rhineland bastards

A racist propaganda term used for the children of German women and black African soldiers.

Militarism

The belief that a country should maintain a strong military.

Ultimatum

A demand that, if rejected, will bring an end to talks and could lead to forceful action.

Imperialism

A policy of extending a country's power through colonization.

Unconditional

Without limits in any way; without restriction by conditions or qualifications.
