DNS (Domain Name System)
Acts as a phonebook for the internet, translating domain names into IP addresses.
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act)
Legislation aimed at protecting copyright work and combating online piracy, allowing copyright holders to take legal action against unauthorized use.
Dark Patterns
Techniques used by websites or apps to deceive users into unintended actions.
Confirm shaming
emotionally manipulating a user into doing something that they would not otherwise have done
Design Thinking Process
Consists of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test steps to solve problems from the user's perspective.
User Interface (UI)
Refers to the visual aspects and design of a website or product.
User Experience (UX)
Encompasses the overall experience and satisfaction a user has with a website or product.
Machine Learning (ML)
A branch of AI where computers learn and make predictions based on data.
Descriptive ML, Predictive ML, Prescriptive ML
Different types of machine learning focusing on what is happening, what will happen, and what should happen.
Descriptive ML
this is what is probably happening
Predictive ML
this is what will probably happen
Prescriptive ML
this is what probably should happen
Supervised ML
labeling examples in a specific domain to teach AI to recognize patterns. ex: the content you press the like button on
Moore's Law
The observation that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years.
Problem of precision
images and labels in training data must be accurate, clear, and unambiguous
Problem of bias
in which the pattern is biased and what makes something good or bad. it can give rise to discrimination
Narrow AI and Generalized AI
Two types of AI, with Narrow AI focusing on specific tasks and Generalized AI having broader capabilities.
Narrow or weak AI
refers to training in performing a specific task, can perform one thing well, and has a narrow scope of expertise
Generalized or strong AI
refers to the ability to learn and adapt to new situations, can perform a wide range of tasks or near a human like level. it can also understand and adapt to broad, complex, unanticipated experiences
Instrumental convergence
an intelligence agent with unbounded but harmless goals can act in surprising and harmful ways. this can have unintended consequences such as human enslavement by AI and loss of jobs
Futurism
study of social and technological advancement for the purpose of exploring how people will live and work in the future
