Escape Extinction
Continued presence of an aversive stimulus following an escape-maintained response resulting in a decrease in the probability of the response.
Operant extinction
The withholding of a reinforcer previously contingent on a response that results in a decrease in the probability of that response
Negative Punisher
Any stimulus that when removed following a response, decreases the future probability of that response
Positive Punisher
Any stimulus that when delivered following a response, decreases the future probability of that response
Variable Interval (VI) Schedule
A schedule in which reinforcement is arranged for the first response after a period of time and in which the period of time varies across schedule completions
Fixed Interval (FI) Schedule
A schedule in which reinforcement is arranged for the first response after a set of period of time that does not change across reinforcement deliveries and produces scalloped temporal response patterns
Variable Ratio (VR) Schedule
A schedule in which reinforcement is arranged for the last of a specified number of responses and the number of responses varies across schedule completions
Fixed Ratio (FR) Schedule
a schedule in which reinforcement is arranged for the last of a specified number of responses, performance is characterized by a break and run pattern
Negative reinforcer
Any stimulus that when removed following a response increases the probability of that response
Positive reinforcer
Any stimulus that when delivered following a response, increases the probability of that response
EO
increases the effectiveness of a reinforcer and increases the likelihood of behavior maintained by that reinforcer
AO
decreases the efficiency of a reinforcer and decreases the likelihood of behavior maintained by that reinforcer
Discrimininative Stimulus
A stimulus that differentially signals the availability of reinforcement for a response and increases the probability of that response
S-Delta
a stimulus that differentially signals extinction or lower quality reinforcement for a response and decreases the probability of that response
Conditioned Reinforcer
a stimulus that functions as a reinforcer due to associations with other reinforcers
Behavior Chain
a sequence of responses functionally linked to the same terminal reinforcer
Shaping
modification of response topography through differential reinforcement of closer approximations to a target behavior
Stimulus Generalization
The spread of the effects of reinforcement to stimuli similar to those that have been present when reinforcement has previously occurred
Response Generalization
The spread of effects similar to those that have been previously reinforced
Functional Assessment
Gathering information on antecedents and consequences that are functionally related to problem behavior through interviews, observations, or experimentally
Control Condition
a functional analysis condition in which you present the AO for the behavior and do not provide the reinforcer if the behavior occurs
Test condition
a functional analysis
