Engagement
This stage involves establishing rapport and trust with clients, providing informed consent and expectations.
Assessment
This stage includes completing a biopsychosocial, determining client’s strengths and weaknesses, collecting information, and breaking it down.
Planning
This stage involves setting goals and objectives through a treatment plan and/or making an action plan for treatment
Intervention
This stage involves actively working with the client, to include individual or group therapy, IOP, client assignments, 12-step groups, psychoeducational groups, giving client resources, or any other method to help client achieve their goal(s).
Evaluation
This stage involves monitoring the client’s progress with their treatment plan and determining what is working in the intervention and what is not working. How the client is progressing.
Termination
This stage involves ending the therapeutic relationship with the client. Treatment goals have been met.
Validity
How accurate a measure is. Does the test measure what it is supposed to measure? Example: Standardized IQ tests
Reliability
How consistent and replicable something is. Example: If a person takes the ACT 5 times, they should roughly get the same score.
Micro-Level Social Work
Social work that involves direct interaction with clients in inpatient or outpatient therapy, clinical interventions, substance abuse treatment, and crisis management. Can involve one client or groups of clients, to include families.
Mezzo Level Social Work
Social Work that involves working with groups of people (usually a community) focusing on promoting cultural or institutional change. Social workers can be found helping communities, schools, teams, or organizations. Also involves collaboration across organizations and with other professionals than you would at other levels of social work.
Macro Level Social Work
Social Work that involves interventions and advocacy on a large scale, affecting entire communities, states, or even counties. It helps clients by intervening in large systems, local, state, and federal laws.
