Biology
The study of life.
Homeostasis
The ability of an organism to maintain constant internal conditions.
Evolution
The process of change in a population or species over time.
Atom
The smallest unit of matter retaining all chemical properties of an element.
Molecule
A chemical structure with more than two atoms held together by one or more chemical bonds.
Macromolecule
A large molecule typically formed from smaller molecules.
Cell
The smallest fundamental unit of structure and function in living things.
Organelle
Small structures within cells that carry out cellular functions.
Prokaryote
A single-celled organism without organelles or a nuclear membrane.
Eukaryote
An organism (single or multi-celled) that has nuclei and membrane-bound organelles.
Tissue
A group of similar cells carrying out related functions.
Organ
A collection of related tissues grouped together performing a common function.
Organ System
Functionally related interacting organs.
Population
All individuals of a species living in a specific area.
Community
A set of populations in a particular area.
Ecosystem
A community of living organisms and their interactions with their abiotic environment.
Biosphere
The collection of all ecosystems on Earth.
3 Domains of Life
The three domains are Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.
Phylogenetic Tree
A diagram showing evolutionary relationships among biological species based on genetic or physical traits; a hypothesis concerning evolutionary connections.
Cells
Smallest fundamental unit of structure and function and living things
What combines to make tissues?
Cells
What’s an example of tissues?
Human skin tissues, and their function is to protect us
Organ
Collection of related tissues group together performing a common function, example stomach
Population
All individuals of a species living in a specific area
Community
Set of populations in a particular area
This person compared conserved genes of ribosomal RNA showing need to separate prokaryotes into bacteria and Archaea domains
Carl woese
nodes
Represent common ancestors

Branch lengths
Proportional to amount of time elapsed since divergence
