What are common experiences, characteristics, or backgrounds that past presidents have had?
They have all been men, most have had an education, and many have been lawyers before they became president.
What is the electoral college?
A system that helps us decide who the president will be
How does the electoral college work?
Each state gets a certain amount of votes based on the number of representatives and senates that are in the state. you vote not for a president but for someone that will represent the president that you want. Then whichever president wins in that state they get the electoral votes for that state. Then whichever president wins the most electoral votes wins the election.
How does a candidate win the presidency?
By getting at least 270 electoral votes and getting more then the other candidate
What happens if no candidate wins a majority in the Electoral College?
Then congress gets to choose one of the people that were running in the election
How many times can someone be elected president?
2 terms that are 4 years long
What is the purpose of the Presidential Succession Act?
To make a plan to create a system of people to fill in as president in case something happens to the president.
What two issues does the 25th Amendment address?
It addresses what happens when the president is unable to do their job, dies, goes into a coma, etc.

Vice president

stays in touch with congress and has the ability to sign a bill into a new law as well as a veto

in charge of the United States military

considered the leader of their political party and president becomes the platform for the rest of the party

represents the country and makes a state of the union speech

negotiates treaties with other countries and attends summits and meetings with international leaders

Congress used to have to approve war and declare it but now presidents have declared war without permission from congress.
How have modern vice presidents been utilized?
They have been given jobs and things to do from the president
What is the “cabinet”?
A group of officials that run the departments and advise the president.
What is the purpose of the "Departments" of the executive branch?
They handle specific things and help the president when needed
What does the term “enforcement” mean regarding a law?
It means to make sure people follow laws and doing different things to make that happen
