Space Race

A Cold War competition between the US and the Soviet union to achieve the superior space program. It involves a series of milestones, including the first satellite launch, the first human in space, and on the moon. The race spurred significantly technological advancements, and became a symbol of ideological and political rivalry between the two superpowers.

Marshall Plan

The Marshall plan was created by the US after World War II to provide significant financial aid to help rebuild and restore war devastated European countries. The goal was to promote economic recovery and prevent the spread of communism in western Europe.

Truman Doctrine

The US pledged political and economic support from the United States to any Democratic nation facing threats to stability. Truman specifically referenced issues in the countries of Greece and Turkey, but the doctrine also applied to the other countries of Europe that were threatened by communism. Truman and the US government believe that the Soviet union was the main threat to peace and stability in the world.

Containment

American foreign policy during the Cold War - communism needed to be contained within current communism countries. Any attempt to spread communism was to be prevented.

The Cold War

A period of tension between the US and the Soviet Union and the respective allies from the mid-1940s to the late 1980s. There was no active war between the two superpowers, but proxy wars instead.

United Nations

Establish after World War III, it is a global organization with members from nations all over the planet, whose goal is to promote peace and prevent events like World War II, or the holocaust from happening again.

Nuremberg Trial

Held in Nuremberg, Germany after World War II to prosecute prominent members of Nazi Germany, for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes against peace through events like the holocaust.

Genocide/Holocaust

Mass murder because of a group of people because it was certain factor. The holocaust was systematic prosecution and murder of 6 million European Jews by the Nazi regime and collaborators, during World War ll. The Nazi regime, led by Adolf Hitler, implemented policies and actions aimed at the annihilation of the Jewish population, viewing them as racially inferior.
