Soft Field Takeoff (Setup until cruise)

Flaps 10 (Increases lift to get off the ground more quickly)

Maintain nose above ground

Minimal braking

Approach runway. (Verify nobody on final, nobody on the runway, verify correct rwy, and get on centerline with minimal braking)

Full power, lift nose off EVEN MORE to keep it off the ground

Plane may lift off early, gently push down to keep it in ground effect, and accelerate to Vx OR Vy depending on obstacle. After Vy and positive rate, flaps clean and do your climb checklist

(POWER, Mixture (Lean?), Instruments, landing light off, flight plan open?)

2
New cards

Short Field Takeoff (Setup until cruise)

Flaps 10 (Increases lift to get off the ground more quickly)

Approach rwy. (Verify no one on final, on rwy, rwy #) and get on centerline maintaining the most amount of runway.

Hold brakes. Pull throttle. Verify RPM, oil pressure and temp.

Release brakes, maintain centerline, and rotate at 50.

Climb at Vx (54) until clear of obstacle then Vy, positive rate, flaps clean and do your climb checklist

(POWER, Mixture (Lean?), Instruments, landing light off, flight plan open?)

3
New cards

Short Field Landing

Approach at 54 KIAS, flaps 30

Once obstacle is cleared, power IDLE

Pitch for AIMING point, then slowly start to flare to reach touchdown point.

After touching down, SIMULATE MAX BRAKING AND FLAPS UP

4
New cards

Soft Field Landing

Approach at 54-60 KIAS
Maintain flare till touchdown, keep 50-100 RPM to keep nose up

DO NOT TOUCH FLAPS. Only for after landing checklist

Keep a bump of power in to keep the nose off the ground

5
New cards

EVERYTHING you need to do before approaching an airport

Weather first. ASOS/AWOS/ATIS. Winds are #1

Controlled/Uncontrolled? Have the frequency ready,

Know what TPA is, and if its LP or RP

15-20 nm make your report. Let traffic or tower know where you’re at, what info you have, and intentions

Get to TPA, remember your runway and pattern. Continue making reports

IF UNTOWERED-You need to use your winds and choose the rwy to whatever is closest. Make the announcement.

A/FD will tell you TPA

You can consider overflying to see if any traffic is in sight, then enter.

6
New cards

Considering all landings are full stop, whats the only landing you raise flaps for?

Short field landing. Helps the “sink”.

7
New cards

Requesting transition through airspace?

Metro/Salina tower, sparrowhawk 25430 20 miles to the east/west/north/south, requesting transition to the east/west/north/south

8
New cards

How to request flight following?

Contact approach, departure, or center. Remember this is ATC VOLUNTARY SERVICE

Denver center, N25430

(Tower will repeat back to say request)

Cessna 25430 over ___ at 7,500 en route to ___. requesting VFR flight following

9
New cards

What does FSS do? How do you contact them?

Find a VOR station and you’ll be able to contact them on the frequency above the “box”.

Inflight help desk. They provide pilot wx briefings, flight plans, and NOTAMS.

New cards

Power ON stalls

CRAAC

Carb Heat

Power 1500

Hold altitude and coordination

Rotation speed (50 kt) CRAM power and carb

Pitch and announce stall horn, buffet, and stall

Lower nose and level wings

Stay coordinated with rudder and nose above horizon on recovery

11
New cards

Power OFF Stall

CRAAC

Carb, power 1700

Hold altitude as you slow down to Vfe

Flaps incrementally, then pitch to 60 kts

Wait 3 seconds on descent, then idle and “flare” to maintain altitude

Announce stall horn, buffet, stall

On stall, lower nose, full power and carb back in. Flaps 20 immediately

Nose to the horizon, at safe airspeed and VY, flaps 10

Verify Vy and positive rate, then clean flaps

12
New cards

Slow flight

CRAAC

Carb, power 1600

Hold altitude to slow to Vfe and add flaps in

Region of reverse command. Pitch to Vso (35)

If stall horn sounds before 35, stay at +10/-0 (Do NOT get slower)

Right rudder is important

Recovery is full power, carb heat, flaps 20 immediately

13
New cards

What altitude do you have to be at for slow flight and stalls?

1500 AGL

14
New cards

ACS Guidelines for an emergency descent

Know what situations would require an emergency descent (depressurization, smoke, or engine fire)

Do your emergency procedure

Know what airspeed to do it at (POH does not describe it, maybe dont exceed Vno?) ACS says +0/-10 knots

30-45 degrees of bank

Level off at specified altitude + or - 100 feet

Follow checklist (Checkmate may include it)

15
New cards

ACS Lost Procedures Guidelines?

Know methods to identify position

Confess, climb, circle, conserve, communicate, comply

16
New cards

ACS Diversion Guidelines?

Select a suitable destination and route for diversion

Make a reasonable estimate of heading, groundspeed, arrival time, and fuel required to make it

17
New cards

What altitude do you need to be at for ground reference maneuvers?

600-1000 AGL. Sweet spot is 800

18
New cards

Steps for ground ref maneuvers?

Clearing turns then find wind direction (Or clearing turns can be a part of it?

You can look at crops, ripples, or ground speed to determine where the wind is coming from

Always enter on the downwind

19
New cards

Steep turn procedure?

CRAAC (1500 AGL)

Power to 95, then slowly roll to 45, two swipes of trim, and about 100 rpm

Outside inside
