Muscular Strength
The ability of a given muscle group to generate torque at a particular joint.
Torque
The rotational force that causes an object to rotate around an axis.
Force-Length Relationship
The principle that determines the force a muscle can produce based on its length at a given moment.
Active Insufficiency
The inability of a muscle to generate force when it is slack.
Passive Insufficiency
The restriction of joint range of motion when muscles are fully stretched.
Moment Arm
The perpendicular distance from the line of action of a force to the axis of rotation.
Concentric Contraction
A type of muscle contraction where the muscle shortens while generating force.
Eccentric Contraction
A type of muscle contraction where the muscle lengthens while generating force.
Stretch-Shortening Cycle
A muscle action that involves an eccentric contraction followed by a concentric contraction.
Muscular Power
The product of muscular force and the velocity of muscle shortening.
