Myocardium
The middle and muscular layer of the heart responsible for contraction.
Atrioventricular (AV) Valve
Valves in the heart that prevent backflow of blood from the ventricles to the atria during contraction.
SA Node (Sinoatrial Node)
The natural pacemaker of the heart, initiating electrical impulses.
Angina Pectoris
Transient chest pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the myocardium, often relieved by rest.
Dysrhythmia
Abnormal heart rhythms that can lead to complications such as cardiac arrest.
Pericardium
The fibrous sac surrounding the heart comprised of visceral, parietal layers, and pericardial sac.
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
A condition resulting in impaired filling and contraction of the heart, leading to pulmonary or systemic congestion.
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, often in the legs, characterized by edema and tenderness.
Troponin I
A critical serum cardiac marker indicative of myocardial injury.
Vascular Resistance
The resistance of arteries to blood flow, impacting blood pressure.
