Taiga
Long cold winters, short cool summers; low to moderate precipitation; snow on ground prevents permafrost and have has evergreen (coniferous) trees
Temperate desert
Warm/hot summers, cool/cold winters; low precipitation; dry soil, not enough precipitation for trees, dryness from being inland / the leeward side of a mountain
Temperate grassland (Prairies, Steppes, Velts, Pampas)
Warm/hot summers, cool/cold winters; low to moderate precipitation; enough water for grass but not for trees
Temperate forest (Broadleaf/Deciduous, Evergreen, Rain)

Warm all year; low to moderate precipitation; long dry season in winter where fires can occur / wet season in summer
Tropical forest
Warm all year; high precipitation; includes the wettest land biome the rainforest, most diverse habitat, soil is poor in nutrients
