Graafian follicle
A mature ovarian follicle that is ready to release an egg.
Fundus
The superior dome-shaped portion of the uterus.
Broad ligaments
Ligaments that anchor the uterus to either side of the pelvic cavity.
Vagina
The outlet for menstrual flow and the passageway for childbirth.
Labia majora
Two longitudinal folds of skin covered with pubic hair that extend from the mons pubis.
Clitoris
A small cylindrical mass of erectile tissue located at the anterior junction of the labia minora.
Hymen
A thin fold of vascularized membrane that borders the vaginal orifice.
Sequence for the passage of milk

Serosa (visceral peritoneum)
The layer of simple epithelium covering the free surface of the ovary.
Proliferative phase
The phase of the menstrual cycle between days 6 and 13 during which endometrial repair occurs.
Stratum functionalis
The layer of the endometrium that is sloughed off during menstruation.
Spermatogonia
The most immature spermatogenic cells.
Corpus luteum
The structure that contains the remnants of an ovulated mature follicle.
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
The hypothalamic hormone that controls the uterine and ovarian cycles.
Positive feedback of estrogens
High levels of estrogens that stimulate an increase in LH and GnRH, leading to ovulation.
