refraction is
when waves change direction passing through a medium at a different speed
the denser the optical density of an object
the slower the wave travels
optical density is
how fast light travels in a material
if light slows down
it will curve towards the normal
if light speeds up
it will curve away from normal
rp for this
get a translucent object on a piece of paper and a ray box
trace the ray of incidence and emerging point as well as the point where the light hits the object
join up emerging point and ray of incidence this is angle of refraction
the other point you can draw the normal
objects will have different angles of refraction because of
different optical densities
