Inequality
A mathematical statement that compares two expressions using inequality symbols such as
An inequality symbol indicating that the value on the left side is smaller than the value on the right side.
(greater than)
An inequality symbol indicating that the value on the left side is larger than the value on the right side.
≤ (less than or equal to)
An inequality symbol indicating that the value on the left side is either less than or equal to the value on the right side.
= (greater than or equal to)
An inequality symbol indicating that the value on the left side is either greater than or equal to the value on the right side.
Graphing Inequalities
The visual representation of solutions to inequalities on a number line.
Open circle
Used in graphing to indicate that a number is not included in the solution of an inequality (used with < or >).
Closed circle
Used in graphing to indicate that a number is included in the solution of an inequality (used with ≤ or ≥).
One-Step Inequalities
Inequalities that can be solved by performing a single operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Solving Inequalities
The process of finding all values that satisfy the inequality.
