What organs are located in the Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ)?
Big part of the liver, part of the stomach, gallbladder, duodenum, right kidney, right adrenal gland.
Which region is located superior to the umbilical region?
The Epigastric Region.
What might indicate a gastrointestinal disorder during a medical history assessment?
Symptoms such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, gallbladder or liver disease, or appendicitis.
What does COLDSPA stand for in assessing abdominal pain?
C – Character, O – Onset, L – Location, D – Duration, S – Severity, P – Pattern, A – Associated factors.
What do the 6 F's of abdominal distention refer to?
Fat, Feces, Fetus, Fibroids, Flatulence, Fluid.
What is a Grey Turner Sign indicative of?
Flank purple discoloration due to trauma to the kidney, pancreas, or duodenum.
What does the presence of bruits over the abdominal aorta suggest?
Indicates possible obstruction of the artery, abdominal aneurysm, or arterial stenosis.
What is the function of the Atrioventricular valve?
Allows blood flow from the atria into the ventricles but prevents backflow into the atria.
What does the term 'S2' signify in cardiac assessments?
Closing of the semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonic) at the beginning of ventricular diastole.
What is the normal range for liver span measurement at the right midclavicular line (MCL)?
6-12 cm.
What is the significance of the McBurney’s Point?
A specific location in the right lower quadrant indicative of appendicitis when pain is elicited upon palpation.
What is asterixis and what does it indicate?
A persistent involuntary flapping tremor that may indicate liver cirrhosis, hepatic encephalopathy, or acute liver failure.
What is the procedure for assessing for ascites?
Perform the fluid wave test by tapping one side of the abdomen while palpating the other to check for fluid presence.
What does palpation of the spleen indicate if it is palpable?
Enlargement, which may indicate serious conditions; if palpated, stop to avoid rupture.
What is the normal ratio for the anterior-posterior (AP) diameter to transverse diameter?
1:2 to 5:7.
What is the assessment procedure for voice sounds during a lung examination?
Check for bronchophony, whispered pectoriloquy, and egophony.
What findings can indicate pulmonary consolidation?
Abnormal transmission of sounds, such as clear and loud sounds over areas normally muffled.
What does a high-pitched wheezing sound indicate during respiration?
Narrowing of the upper airway.
What should be documented after conducting an abdominal assessment?
Findings from the assessment including any abnormalities detected.
