Control variable

A factor that is kept the same or constant during an experiment.

Dependent variable

A factor that is changed in response to the independent variable during an experiment.

Hypothesis

A prediction or an educated guess that answers a question.

Independent variable

A factor that is changed by a scientist during an experiment.

Bias

Anything that sways an experiment's results in a way that makes them inaccurate.

Double blind

An investigation in which neither the researchersnor the patients know who is receiving placebos.

Error

A mistake in an investigation, such as an inaccuracy of measuring instruments or sampling.
