Definition of Hardware/Software + examples
Hardware is the physical components e.g. keyboard, mouse and software is the program that control the hardware e.g. operating system, utility software.
System software - definition
Essential for operation of computer system, without it user has no starting point to give computer instructions + it gives users a platform to run applications on/ carry out tasks.
System software - functions
Booting up - talking to hardware to get it ready to be used.
Device management - managing external hardware such as keyboards, printers etc.
Security - gives a layer of security to the hardware, preventing malware

Productivity - get things done efficiently (word processors, spreadsheets & presentation)
Communication - stay connected (email, browser, messaging)
Entertainment - watch movies, play games or listen to music
