  • ABC movement was the anything but carter movement to keep Carter out of office because of his inept managerial talent.

  • Many increases in oil, inflation, and even had hostages under his presidency.

  • Champion of the “common man” against the big gov

  • Used acting skills as a benefit to attack carter for his bad performance foreign policy

  • Used the high inflation, oil costs, and more as attacks.

New Right is the idea of focusing less on economic issues and more on social issues. Was started and kept going by the Moral Majority.

Identity was the use of one’s party to identify themselves instead of their gender.

This was between Mondale and Reagan.

  • Geraldine Ferraro was Mondale’s running mate and was the first woman to appear on a presidential ticket.

Reagan won because of the “why go back 4 years” mentality.

What were the goals of the federal government?

Decrease budget, increase defense spending, cutting taxes, and putting power back into the states.

WANTED TO SHRINK FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S ROLE IN EVERYDAY LIFE.

This money was then sent to the Contras to fight off communism in Nicaragua

the president: If found guilty that shows breaking american law. If found innocent shows lack of control over his admin.

Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill.

Clarence Thomas was an African American man who was going to be placed straight on the Supreme Court bench from South Carolina.

Unfortunately, Anita Hill accused Thomas of sexully harassing her and thus a case was needed to be heard for him to join the bench. These hearings were aired on TV.

He won 52-48 and became the 2nd African american to be on the bench.
