Petrarchan Sonnet

•Introduced by a poet named Petrarch
•Octave (8 lines) and a Sestet (6 Lines)
•Spread to England, where it became known
during the Renaissance as the "Petrarchan
sonnet.”
Shakespeare Sonnet
The Shakespearean sonnet is divided into
four parts.
•The first three parts are each four lines long,
and are known as quatrains, rhymed ABAB.
•The fourth part is called the couplet (two
lines), and is rhymed CC.
