Emotional intelligence
The skill of identifying, assessing, and influencing the emotions of oneself and others during interaction.
Self-awareness
Understanding and recognizing your own emotional state so you can manage your reactions and behavior.
Assessing emotions
The process of observing verbal and non-verbal cues to gauge whether someone is happy, upset, concerned, or frustrated.
Influencing emotions
Using your own tone, words, and behavior to positively affect how others feel.
Face-to-face communication
In-person interaction that allows participants to see facial expressions, gestures, and other visual cues critical for reading emotions.
Emotional contagion
The phenomenon where one person’s feelings spread to others—if you’re happy, others tend to feel happy; if you’re upset, they may feel upset.
Passion (in teaching/communication)
Strong enthusiasm and energy that a speaker conveys, which can motivate and engage the audience.
Self-regulation
The ability to manage your emotional responses so that you don’t let chaos or frustration negatively impact those around you.
Empathy
The capacity to read and understand other people’s emotional states, such as noticing when a teammate is stuck, angry, or frustrated.
Communication environment
The overall emotional climate created by the communicator’s mood, behavior, and delivery style.
Agile mindset
A willingness to adapt, change the way you work, and continuously improve, inspired by the speaker’s encouragement.
Multimodal communication tools
Equipment like bright lights and high-definition microphones that enhance visual and audio clarity, making emotional cues easier to perceive.
