Perceptual Distortion
An error in the judgement or interpretation of sensory stimuli that occurs in most healthy brains; provides no indication of something being wrong.
Synaesthesia
A perceptual phenomenon characterized by the experience of unusual perceptions in one sensory system after another sensory system has been activated.
Grapheme-colour synaesthesia
A type of synaesthesia in which a person sees colours when viewing letters, numbers or words (i.e. graphemes).
Spatial Neglect
An inability to perceive, report, or orient sensory information located within one side of space.
Line bisection task
A test for spatial neglect where individuals are asked to mark the middle of a line; those with spatial neglect will show a bias to one side.
Target cancellation task
A test for spatial neglect where individuals are asked to cross out a specific shape among different shapes; those with spatial neglect will only cross out shapes on one side.
Copying tasks
A test for spatial neglect where individuals are asked to copy images; those with spatial neglect tend to disregard one side of the images.
