Where is testosterone produced, and what are its target tissues?
Produced by Leydig cells (testes). Targets reproductive ducts, accessory glands, muscles, bones, hair follicles, brain. Functions: spermatogenesis support, development of male ducts/glands, secondary sex characteristics, libido.
What is the role of FSH in the male reproductive system?
Secreted by anterior pituitary. Targets Sertoli cells, stimulating androgen-binding protein (ABP) production → concentrates testosterone in seminiferous tubules → supports spermatogenesis.
What is the role of LH in the male reproductive system?
Secreted by anterior pituitary. Targets Leydig cells, stimulating testosterone secretion.
What is the function of inhibin in males?
Produced by Sertoli cells. Inhibits FSH secretion from anterior pituitary (negative feedback).
