New cards

Whats HyperInflation?

Variety of basic respiratory care modalities, all of which are designed to promote lung expansion and thereby prevent or reverse atelectasis.

2
New cards

What is IPPB?

Machine used to reexpand lung tissue. (short-term mechanical inflation to augment inspiratory volumes, deliver aerosols, and mobilize secretions)

3
New cards

INCENTIVE SPIROMETER

STEPS?

inspiratory capacity if able

• Assemble the Incentive spirometer (connect tubing and mouthpiece)

• Have the patient:

a. Exhale normally

b. Insert the mouthpiece into your mouth and inhale slowly and deeply

c. Hold your breath at the end of inspiration for 3-5 seconds (count to 10)

New cards

What can a PT use to splint an incision if they have pain when taking a deep breath?

A pillow to splint an incision.

5
New cards

What should we chart when using a INCENTIVE SPIROMETER?

The volume, and number of time IS was preformed by the pt

6
New cards

At the end of a INCENTIVE SPIROMETER treatment, what should we ask the PT to do at the end? What do we note?

Ask patient to cough at the end, and note in charting if cough was productive.

7
New cards

Whats another hyperinflation device?

Pep (Positive expiratory pressure devic)

8
New cards

What kinda PT do we use incentive spirometry?

Fresh out of surgery.

9
New cards

What is atelectasis?

A collapse in the alveoli of the lungs. (Partial or total.)
